Lowman District Trails

Recreation Opportunity Guides (ROGs) with more de-tailed information and maps for some trails are available at any Boise National Forest Ranger Station.

Motorized - Open to all modes of travel except 4-wheeIed vehicles. Open to motorcycles, mountain bikes, horses, and hikers.

Non-motorized - Closed to all motorized modes of travel. Open to mountain bikes, horses, and hikers.

Wilderness Trails - Hikers and Horses only. No motorized or mechanized equipment

Trail # 013, Steven's Point 2 mi., Motorized. Access: From the Deadwood Ridge Trail, approximately 7 miles from the trailhead at Deadwood Campground. Quad map: Miller Mtn. West

Trail # 018, Long Creek: 3 mi., Motorized. Access: From the Long Creek Road (545), which takes off of the Clear Creek Road (582) at milepost 5. Quad map: Miller Mtn. West

Trail # 019, Deadwood Ridge: 25 mi., Motorized. Access: From Deadwood Campground, which is located on the Banks-Lowman Highway, four miles west of Lowman. Quad maps: Pine Flat, Miller Mtn. West, and Whitehawk Mtn.

Trail # 020, Julie Creek: 9 mi., Motorized. Access: From the Banks-Lowman Highway (four miles west of Low-man), turn right on the Deadwood Road (024GB) Proceed 3 miles along the Deadwood River. First 4 miles open to 4-wheel ATV's. Quad maps: Scott Creek and Miller Mtn. West

Trail # 022, Nellie's Basin: 5 mi., Motorized. Access: From the Julie Creek trail, 4 miles from the trailhead on the Deadwood Road. Quad map: Scott Creek.

Trail # 141, Miller Mountain: 2 mi., Motorized. Access: From Hwy 21, milepost 73, turn on the Miller Creek Road (592) and proceed 6 miles to a gate at the end of the road. Quad maps: Lowman and Miller Mtn. West.

Trail # 142, Catpaw Lake: 1 mi., Non-motorized. Access: From the Kirkham Ridge Trail. Quad maps: Cache Creek and Bull Trout Point

Trail # 143, Red Mountain: This trail has an elevation gain of 2260 feet Three of the lakes nestle under 200 foot dark cliffs below the Red Mountain peak. From the the top, you can see the Trinity Mountain, Shafer Butte, Snowbank Mountain, Salmon River Mountains, most of the Sawlooths and some of the White Clouds. To reach the trailhead, drive 12 miles up Forest Road 582 from Lowman and then turn right on Forest Road 515. Drive 5 miles until you reach the trail head/transfer site. At 1.7 miles is the junction with Lookout trail. Take the trail to the left It is another 1.3 miles to the top of Red Mtn. From the top, you can hike cross country to the other lakes. A topo map is recommended. The lakes can also be accessed from Kirkham ridge and Catpaw lake trails. THIS TRAIL IS STEEP. Quad map: Miller Mtn. East

Trail # 145, Clear Creek: 2 mi., Non-motorized. Access: From the Clear Creek Road (582). At milepost 12, continue straight for4 miles on Road 515, along Clear Creek to the end of the road. Quad map: Miller Mtn: East ROG available.

Trail # 146, Bonneville: 0.5 mi., Non-motorized. Access: From the Bonneville Campground parking area located on Highway 21, milepost 91.2. Quad map: Eightrnile Mtn.

Trail # 149, Blue Jay: 5 mi., Motorized. Access: From Highway 21, milepost 89.8, turn right on Road 025QB. Take the first right and proceed to the marked trailhead. Quad maps: Tyee Mtn. and Eightmile Mtn. ROG avail-able.

Trail # 157, Ten Mile Ridge: 12 mi. (7 miles motorized, 5 miles non-motorized). Access: From Highway 21, mile-post 85.5, turn right on Road 531. Veer left after the bridge, then proceed 1 mile to a road with a trailhead sign. At the junction with the Bluejay Trail, this becomes a motorized trail. Quad maps: Jackson Peak, Tyee Mtn, and Edaho Mtn. ROG available.

Trail # 158, Jackson Peak: 2 mi., Motorized. Access: From Highway 21, milepost 85.5, turn right on Road 531. Veer right after the bridge, then proceed 1/4 mile to a road with a trailhead sign. Quad map: Jackson Peak.

Trail # 160, Wapiti Creek: 7 mi., Motorized. Access: From Highway 21, milepost 93.8, turn right on the Grand-jean road (524). Proceed 6 miles to the Wapiti Summer Homes turnoff (right). Veer left at the summer homes and take the first left to the end of the road (525A). Quad maps: Grandjean and Edaho Mtn. ROG available.

Bear Valley/Bull Trout Lake Area

Trail # 015, Wyoming-Fir Creek: 9 mi., Motorized. Access: From the Landmark-Stanley Road (#579) at Mile-posts 5.4 or 10.5. Quad maps: Blue Bunch Mtn and Bull Trout Point

Trail # 016, Gates Creek: 6 mi., Motorized Access: From the Kirkham Ridge Trail (north end, near Bull Trout Lake). Quad map: Bull Trout Point

Trail # 017, Lost Lake: 1 mi., Non-motorized. Access: From the Eastside Road (#502), which takes off of the Clear Creek Road (582) at milepost 16.7. Trailhead is marked on the right side of the road. Quad map: Cache Creek.

Trail # 024, Lola Creek: 2 mi., Non-motorized. Access: From the Landmark-Stanley Road (579) at milepost 3.1. Quad maps: Bull Trout Point, Cape Horn Lakes, and Blue Bunch Mtn.
